THE THEORY OF BIO-CHEMIC MEDICINE SYSTEM
This system of medicine was introduced by Dr. Schuessler of
Germany in 1873. It’s a separate branch of the therapeutic system of
medicine. Being a branch of therapeutics based on LAW of EFFICIENCY,
Dr. Schuessler says that the deficiency of inorganic salts cause
disequilibrium in harmonious functioning of the organic constituents
of the cell, so through potentized inorganic salts this deficiency can be
full filled for making smooth function of cells.
In 1873, through a paper which published in “STAFFES ARCHIV” where stated, All the essential components parts of human body are great remedies. And again, in the same journal, all constituents of human body, act in such organs principally where they have a function.
Dr. Schuessler on gaining inspiration from these articles began to formulate a new system of therapeutics. In March 1873, he published his article “An Abridged Homoeopathic Therapeutics”.
The meaning of BIOCHEMIC are Bio means Life and Chemistry is science concerned to substances.
Dr. Schuessler after 15 years of Homoeopathic practice, became particularly interested in the important inorganic salts of which the human body is composed of, and in their quantitative relations. So, 1873 is considered the birth year of BIO-CHEMISTRY. In 1874 Dr. Schussler’s first work appeared. Its title was “An abridged therapy on the basis of physiology and cellular pathology”. The thesis he propounded in this work was, “The inorganic substances found in blood and tissues are sufficient is of course true today only be cured.” This statement is of course true today only in a very limited sense. It would be more accurate to say “They help to cure all diseases that are curable and in particular they help to regulate constitutional disturbances.”
Dr. Schuessler based his Biochemic Therapeutics on cellular activity. He started from the fact that the salts which remain after combustion, form an essential part of every cell, even if they are only present in extremely small quantities, and that any change in their proper quantitative relations will disturb normal cell function and cause disease.
It is notable that BIOCHEMIC remedies were not selected according to the similarity principle of homoeopathy. They are chemically pure salts, homogeneous to the cell minerals in human body, physiologically and chemically in close relation to them. By the aid of these minerals, disturbed molecular motion in the cells can be rectified. Taken for a certain period, these salts will compensate the losses incurred during a disease. Thus, the cell will recover, and will be able to overcome the disease completely.
Dr. Schuessler at first made use of 12 and later on only 11 minerals substance and from them built up a comprehensive therapeutics system. Here all 12 substances are discussed, including Calcarea Sulfurica, which Schuessler later abandoned, because it has proved its value as a therapeutic agent.
Following are Key Bio-Chemic remedies:
- Calcarea Fluorica (Calc. flour)
- Calcarea Phosphorica (Calc. Phos)
- Calcarea Sulfurica (Calc. Sulf)
- Ferrum Phosphoricum (Fer. Phos)
- Kalium Muriaticum (Kali. Mur)
- Kalium Sulfuricum (Kali. Sulf)
- Magnesia Phosphorica (Mag. Phos)
- Natrum Muriaticum (Nat. Mur.)
- Natrum Phosphoricum (Nat. Phos.)
- Natrum Sulfuricum (Nat. Sulf.)
Latter on the supplementary agents Kalium Arsenicosum, Kalium Bromatum, Kalium Iodatum, Lithium Chloratum and Manganum Sulfuricum were included. But from the point of view of Schuessler’s biochemical system they have proved to be in no way indispensable and for this reason they have not been considered here.
PREPARATIONS OF BIOCHEMIC REMEDIES
Biochemic tissue remedies are prepared in the Decimal scale as suggested by Dr. Herring.
One gram of the crude material and 9 grams of Saccharum lactis is triturated in in a porcelain mortar and pestle for one hour. This called 1X Potency.
1 gram of the above potency (1X) with 9 grams of Sc lac Powder, is triturated in the similar manner for 1 hour. This becomes 2X potency. In a similar manner, higher decimal trituration is prepared.
DOSES & REPETITION
Dr. Schuessler has recommended 6x triturations however it started from 3x than 6x than 12x. Repetitions of the dose may be done at every fifteen minutes in acute cases till patient feels better, then at 5 hourly intervals till the condition subsides.
In adults dose is 5 grains, in children 3 grains are advised.
For chronic disease, medicines may be continued for longer duration. 5 grains for adults, 3-4 times in a day. For Children 3 grains, 3-4 times in a day.
